Two weeks ago I bought a Samsung Exynus 5200 Chromebook. It has 2 Gb memory, 16 Gb SSD ARM-processor Mali-T 604 and a Chrome OS named Snow-Premier GE 8429. I'm new here and I found nothing about this type on this Forum and elsewhere, so I put my questions here.
I want to work with Linux on it. And I tested several installations of ChromeOS with the possiblity to boot with:
- Ubuntu, placed in 10 Gb of the SSD;
- Ubuntu placed on a SD-card;
- Ubuntu places on a usbstick;
- XFCE with crouton;
- Unity with crouton.

Because the crouton-versions are stripped ( no mailer no Internet, no Softwarecenter if you want Internet, switch to ChromeOS :eek:),
I don't like them.
And I prefer also a smaller Linux version, such as LinuxMint or Puppy. But until now I could not find examples of how to install those Linux-versions, here my question:
"Do you know where I can find instructions of how to install LinuxMint or Puppy on my type of Chromebook (Samsung ARM Exynus 5200)?"

So I started thinking more about electronic privacy... And, I started thinking more about my Chromebook (my primary device) and what Google is storing and tracking.

Just for grins, I open an https://duckduckgo.com/, type in a search phrase and view my results. The connection is https so it is encrypted. I then go to settings, history and there is my connection to https://duckduckgo.com/ and it also includes my search phrase. My expectation in going to https DuckDuckGo is that my search phrase and results would be between me and DuckDuckGo, but obviously, that's not the case. Using Incognito keeps the history from being recorded on your machine, but it is all still tracked by Google.

Any thoughts?

Noob here so forgive me.

I can't access YM using my chromebook, but YM works fine on my desk top .. do I need to use mobile YM for the chromebook? .. if I do is there anyway to keep my same user ID?

next .. I have a Kodak pocket camcorder for an upcoming trip. For some reason I can't open an mp4 file after I transfer it to the chromebook. Works fine on my desktop though .. maybe I need to take the SD card out of the cam and d/l that instead of running it through my cam?

thanks for any help!

Since no one wrote this yet that I found I will give you my 5 hours of tinkering and first time on Linux on How to run Wow on your chromebook. Im running a 5 550, should work on others.
1. Install ChrUbuntu Chromebooks and Chrome OS: So You Want ChrUbuntu on a USB / SD Card? Well Merry Christmas!
2. Install wine from app store
3. steal wow from Windows PC, put it on external HDD.
4. configure config.WTF add these lines
SET ffxDeath "0"
SET ffxGlow "0"
SET gxApi "opengl"
5. Make your gfx card compatable like this:
1. driconf install, sudo apt-get install driconf
2. open driconf (via terminal), go to the tab "image quality" and activate the S3TC texture compression, even if the software support is not available. (Default is "no" change to "yes")
6. ENJOY WOW on your chromebook!
1. go to HDD and right click on WOW.exe and go to run with wine.
- I kinda wish google would release linux drivers for these, but it seems to work fine like this.
-I play on low settings with maxxed out view distance, sometimes I think I have a little trouble with the wifi settings

Hello everyone,

My Samsung Series 5 came in today but I'm having problems. When I booted it up, it took me to the setup screen where it asked my language, keyboard style, and network connection. For the longest time, I could not find a network connection. So I closed the Chromebook, waited 10-15 minutes and then when I opened it back up I saw all the WiFi internet connections available. I connected, went through a few more steps, and then I'm to a screen that is asking for a network connection again. This time I've tried everything and it does not pick up any WiFi signals.

Any advice? Thanks!

I have been using my ChtomeBook Acer c7 for 3 months and although I've had a couple of minor glitches I have been able to deal with them.

My other computers have Mac OS and a windows XP.

Today I connected a USB Hard Drive I use to keep backups of important files/folders and tried to move files from the C7 chromebook Download area not the Drive but was unable to move to the USB HardDrive.

I have done this many times before without a problem. I even tried to delete a single file and I got the dialog checking to see if I was sure I wanted to delete the file to which I answered YES, the file would not delete nor could I move it from the main download folder to a subfolder within the download folder.

After that I turned off the computer pressing the on button and restarted the C7 making sure it was on line and tried to delete the single file (a PDF) and was still unable to do so or to move it into a subfolder located on the same main download folder as the PDF file.

I have tried this a least five times, the first couple of times after responding to the 1st dialog BOX asking me if I wanted to delete the file I saw at the top of browser window the 2nd dialog BOX telling me that the files were being deleted and if I wanted to cancel the deletion. The files were not deleted.

Now I only get the dialog BOX confirming In want to delete the files nothing else happens after I press OK no 2 dialog BOX to tell me the files are being deleted. When I try to move the file into a subfolder nothing happens

I have no idea what is going on can anyone help.

thanks
