USB 2.0 versus USB 3.0

What is the difference between USB 2.0 and USB 3.0? Will the socket still be the same shape and size? Will USB 2.0 devices be compatible with USB 3.0 sockets?

This will be the fourth Update for USB ports. I believe that USB 3.0 came out a while back but it took awhile for them to get installed. I know I saw an ASUS with 3.0. The shape of the socket isn't going to change.

The shape is the same, I think it's just the speed that's different. USB 3.0 cords are faster than 2.0, although I don't know exactly how it works.

They provide more electrical current to power external USB peripherals. And a lot more speed (480 Mbit/s vs 5000 Mbit/s).

The reason why the adoption rate is low is because Intel and AMD chipsets still feature older USB ports.

I wonder how long it will take before computers switch over fully to USB 3. Chromebooks are still 2 and so are a lot of other computers on the market.
