photos to USB drive

Hi, I bought a Toshiba 13.3 Chromebook for my wife a week ago. Functionally it's better than I had hoped, it's quite impressive. We moved 300 odd photos onto the Google Drive, all went well. We need to copy some of them to USB flash drive to have them professionally printed (first grandchild). Can't work out how to get them from cloud onto a USB stick to take to the printers. Would really appreciate a 'heads up' on this one.

Thanks

Hi rapidred75...

Haven't got a tosh, but have just managed a similar process on a new Chromebook: if that will be of any help... Here's how...

The first thing I did, was to open the apps and (if you've not got a files APP there) type the word 'files' into the search bar... The first tab down on the opening menu, says files. Right click and save to shelf... (If you do have an APP, right click and pin to shelf)...Then...

Had a few pics stored on Google drive. (as you have)

Started Chromebook and plugged flash drive to USB... A files folder opened, showing the USB memory stick. Clear that...

Open drive and the pictures folder...
Single right click on first image, and click on 'Download' from drop down menu... Arrow should denote download taking place...
File will open... Make sure 'USB drive' is highlighted and click 'Save' at the bottom of the file... File closes...
Return to pictures and repeat the process. When complete, print from memory stick...

Hope that helps... Come back if it's not clear...

Robbie Dalziel....

P.S. At any time, you can click on the file tab, down on the shelf, to see that your pictures are being downloaded...

Photos to USB Drive

Robbie;
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question and the invitation to call on you again, if needed. Guess what?
I'm reasonably computer savvy, self taught, but have been on Windows for about that past 15 years, never anything else.
I followed your instructions as best I could on this Toshiba Chromebook and all was well until we turned into the straight heading for home.
Started Chromebook, inserted USB Memory stick (USB3 was all I had available). Opened Drive and it recognized USB Memory stick. I 'cleared' that by clicking on small up arrow on right end of menu box. Single right click on a selected photo opened drop down menu, I selected download and green down arrow indicated file had downloaded. File shown in bottom left. However I could not select the USB drive and could not find save. The USB drive no longer visible and I couldn't bring it up.
Sometimes when 'clearing' the USB under Drive and clicking on Drive or My Drive all 303 photos showed as 'selected'. We only want some of them, not all of them, for printing.
I also have a pretty potent desktop I built late last year. Tried the USB thumb drive from the Chromebook through it but no files stored on it. The USB drive is new and unused and I did format it before using it.
I'm close but still no cigar!

Thanks,

Need to try and get a video picture running in my head about this first rapidred...

First and foremost, I'm not sure if a USB3 stick will work... I used a USB2... Then you said you formatted the stick... Did you do that in the Chromebook, or was it done otherwise??? Let's move on a bit...

OK ~ you then started by saying: I 'cleared' that by clicking on small up arrow on right end of menu box.
Personally, I used the small 'X' in the top right hand corner, as in windows practice... Is your arrow the equivalent to the 'X' ???

You then said ~ a little further down: I selected download and green down arrow indicated file had downloaded. (That was correct) Then you said: File shown in bottom left. However I could not select the USB drive and could not find save. The USB drive no longer visible and I couldn't bring it up.

In my case, the main 'file menu' opened, allowing me to highlight the USB ticket, and click on save, at the bottom of the menu file... That's where your usage, seems to differ from mine ~ for starters...

If you'd placed the 'file ADD', down on the shelf before you started (if that was possible) you could have opened the file envelope, highlighted USB and saved ~ as I did on mine, then opened the file again, to see that the picture had gone onto the USB stick... Hope that makes sense...

That seems to be the major difference, between what I did and what you did... If you've the patience, would you try to replicate my process, before going any further, so that we only take one step at a time...

Like you, I've been at this for more than a decade, using windows (all self taught) and at times, I've found that it's only been sheer determination, that brought success to any project...

Maybe you'd let me know if you want to proceed, or give it all a miss...

Regards...

Robbie D....

Sorry pal... I said 'file ADD' ~ that should have been 'file APP' down on the shelf...

Photos to USB drive

Hey Robbie....Just noticed, you are a Pom, I'm one of those Bloody Aussies. Thought you seemed more intelligent than the normal run.
Anyway, to business. I believe I have found where the problem is.
I did all the normal and then hit download and all the right thingies happen, green arrows and all, photo icon appears at end of green arrow direction but not opened.
As I write, I just tried it again, now no green arrow but file opens. The photo has a broad black vertical band either side and that band on the left covers the file menu. I cannot get at USB or save.
If it was windows I would move cursor to the edge until I had the two directional arrow, left click and drag the edge in or out, up or down,as required. I can move the cursor to the edge and get the two directional arrows but cannot drag the edges open or closed, up or down.
Also I now have a USB2 stick!

Thanks

Have you tried holding down the Ctrl, Alt or even the Shift keys, whilst you drag... The Chromebook uses those keys a lot in making changes... You can create a 'Delete' key, by holding down the 'Alt' key and using the 'Backspace' key... But you probably know about that ~ anyway...

Have a play with that and let me know how you get on...

I've just managed to connect my Chromebook, to my Epson SX200 Inkjet printer... I can now print anything from the Chromebook: direct... It's all very magical...

Hi rapidred...
Just reading through your message again...

Can't imagine what went wrong there, but you do need to get/see that green arrow, which denotes a download and when the box opens, you should see a file name and not an image ~ as I remember it here, from yesterday...

Try going slowly through the process again... let me know how you get on please...

Need to remember, that you're on the other half of the clock, as well as the other half of the planet... :-)
