Chromebooks on CNN

I didn't realise that they were planning to let people rent Chromebooks. That's a nice idea, especially for cash strapped people.

The presenters did a decent job of explaining what it's about at a level most people could understand.

Yes but Google needs 3 year commitment so it's about 1000$ or sth like that. And in 3 years there will be more advanced Chromebooks and more companies will make them so..

Beware of "renting" anything. While it might seem all you can afford to do, you will be paying way more in the long run. That's how poor people stay poor - they pay lots more for things than rich people do.

Chromebooks leased via the $28/month plan are available to businesses needing 10 or more units. Educational customers will pay $20/month per unit for 10 or more units. It should be noted that these subscription fees cover more than the amortized cost of the hardware plus interest. Think of this as an option for outsourcing many of the I.T. support functions required to manage traditional PC's. You can learn more here: Chromebook

The rental cost actually is pretty comparable to the cost of buying it outright.
When you consider that the rental includes tech support, software AND hardware upgrades, it's not a bad deal!
