Is Google Cloud Print Being Removed??

I just read that Google Cloud Print was being removed. If I understand it correctly if they remove that then there will be no way to print from the Chromebook anymore. Is that true, or was this articles author just over reacting?

Where did you see that? I find it hard to believe as it would really pull the (print) rug out from under the Chromebooks as they have no other way to print.

Cheers...

The article that I found references this:

[chrome] Revision 93550

Which is a user request that has sense been closed. From what I can tell (in the dev channel or Canary on my PC) the function has not been removed. I am guessing it was review and rejected.

EDIT: There is no update to the Cloud Printing page either. I am guessing it is junk. After years of being part of the open source community, we used to get random requests that we closed. There are great things about being opensource but the amount of same issues, spam and the likes that would show up in bug reports is crazy. I wouldn't worry about it until Google announces something (like CUPS built in to Chrome).

So you are saying some random person made a request that they close Google Cloud Print? I can't be understanding that correctly because I can not see what person in their right mind would want to request something like that.

Hey guys,
no worries, CloudPrint is not removed from Chrome OS.
The confusion here is because CloudPrint contains of 2 parts: proxy and client.
Proxy is used to connect you locally installed printers to CloudPrint, and that part is indeed removed form Chrome OS build because there is no way to connect local printer to Chrome OS now.
But client part of CloudPrint (one which is used to submit print jobs) is still part of Chrome OS and is not going to be removed.

Thanks, ydolgov, for the clarification. Personally, I don't see why Google would do such a thing as to remove cloud printing. That would be insane to do so. Anyway, the move seems logical enough.

Is there something in the works to fix this issue. You should be able to print directly to a printer from USB or Lan. I thought the whole reason was to detach ourselves from PC's.

I think there were unconfirmed rumors recently that Google Cloud Print was being removed but all the same, I could not get the point of why someone would even think of such a thing?

Sure, you can use cloud aware printers, that can connect to CloudPrint directly, currently any HP ePrint printer can do that (ePrint and Print App supported printers - HP Support Forum). And we are looking forward to see more printers from other manufacturers.
