Samsung Chromebook Teardown

Quote:
Then we dive inside the device. Itís possible to disassemble the whole thing with the spudger, a plastic opening tool, and a Phillips number 1 screwdriver.
The Series 5 is put together a lot like a vanilla netbook, with standard slot-in parts for things like Wi-Fi and 3G WWAN. The 16GB SanDisk SSD is also a standard plug-in module, so it should be possible to upgrade if you want to. In the pictures above, you can see the insides of both the new Chromebook and the original Cr48 for comparison.

They are right it looks simple and almost as if it were just a netbook turned over into a "chromebook" more at wired.com

Although it looks simple, i do hope that means it would be user friendly, and that the possibility to upgrade is true (and simple)

it pretty simple a agree most parts are just plug and play options and the OS seems to be very easily adapted, and going through the trouble of installing a million different hardware drivers to make things work!

Here are the highlights of the story:

Samsung Series 5 3G Chromebook Repairability Score: 6 out of 10 (10 is easiest to repair)

* SSD, Wi-Fi, and WWAN, and most other components are individual modules that can be replaced independently
* Display is very easy to remove
* Mostly-plastic construction feels a little cheap
* RAM is not replaceable
* Battery cannot be removed without opening the case

I'm curious about the battery & charger. The claim is 8.5 hours. I wonder if that's with the video @ lowest output & wifi/3g turned off? Or, if this claim is with video @ brightest in wifi/3G mode with the 3G in a 'hunting' mode?
