I just got mine as well, I love it but as you said Litso it takes a little time to get used to. For me my C7 is fast but when I tried Netflix it was too slow using the web and I have 8 mbps speed.

GOOGLE FAN "Android & Chrome OS" Microsoft Who? Lol

I have had the C7 for 3 days now.

Positives: Ultra fast boot up and waking up from hibernation. (less than one second if it was in sleep mode) Very light, very quiet, doesn't get hot at ALL. Battery so far does last around 3-4 hours. Very simple to use, especially if you've used the Chrome browser for a while. Signed into my google account and my bookmarks, apps, etc all transferred over VERY easily. Chrome OS also had to download some updates upon initial startup. Took a whopping minute and a half. My wife's new Windows 7 laptop...66 updates, ~15 minutes.

Negatives: If you want to print, the printer must be able to hook up to cloud printing. I'm not tech savy enough to know if this is a major concern, just be aware of it. Keyboard is a bit small, but I'm quickly getting used to it. Some Chrome apps aren't compatible with Chrome OS yet. I would find an app in the store and my only download option was to my cell phone. I also bought an external blue-ray player in hopes to having a way to play DVDs on trips. Do far I've had no luck. Drivers won't install (.exe files won't even run). Not a major ordeal, but it's something to keep in mind.

I haven't tried Netflix yet but Flixster worked just fine with no issues. I've also been streaming YouTube videos with no issues yet.

I'm new here but I'll try to post another update once I've had it for a bit longer.

I bought the C7 for $200 this past week. So far I love it! I understood the limitations of the OS when I bought it and was looking for a small light cheap laptop mostly for surfing and browsing while on the road.

I was already a Google Chrome user so all my bookmarks and settings transferred.

My only gripe is not with the laptop. I'm not a fan of Google Docs and I'm trying to find the most MS Word compatible online wordprocessor. So far that appears to be the one in MS SkyDrive. Any other recommendations?

Was able to find a C7 using the phone last night, seems they are still selling out quickly here in Las Vegas.

Staples has them on-line, so I thought I would visit the store location next to Frys, but the Tech on duty said the stores did not stock them (Shame), and I should purchase the Microsoft RT it is far better than any Chromebook. I thanked him, shock my head in disbelief and chose not to take his Microsoft shill bate.

Newegg where I was going to order from on-line but is also sold out quite often. Most employees in my local computer store (Frys Electronics) don't admit to knowing what a Chromebook is, other than they (chromebooks) are being returned quite often because you can not install windows software.

I have tried for several weeks to purchase, and yesterday called several Best Buy Stores, and managed to locate a store that did not sell out immediatly when they received their shipment. The Best Buy near UNLV, where I live is always sold out and they still have a waiting list.

But I have one now and need to ask a few questions about how to connected via WiFi hot spots. Connected to my router via wire or wireless this Acer is snappy system, compared to the Mepis Linux single core laptop I use.

I ordered my C7 online from Best Buy early January, and it arrived at my home in about a week. Probably the reason Frys employees don't like Chromebooks is that Frys doesn't carry Chromebooks.

tecknovice,

Believe you might be correct, but they know the $200 Acers are being returned often because they will not load windows software. Must be some sort of brain washing (training) they are recieving to poop on Chromebooks, to sell a RT or Surface Pro for $1,200 with a keyboard and MS office activated.

I had to chuckle the other day when purchasing a 32 gig card for a raspoberry, asked the sales person why Frys was not selling Chrombooks, he said they would not carry them, because the returns were to high. Saw him yesterday again, and he asked me if i returned my chrombook yet, I answered no getting another. I told him I did not get to use mine enough, so was getting another one for girl friend, he shook his head, and suggested I get a real computer...

I still do not have an answer in my question as to why I can not use fast food WiFi, but maybe it because I have not set up the system with my Google account. I am not certain if that is the reason, but it works well with my wireless, the neighbours, and tire service on the main street.

Smile My new acer

Mine is a C7. I think Acer is gonna compete well in the market and this is my second acer steal at 199.00. Looking at the new Chrome OS, it reminds of an android-like system at the present time without the endless android selection. There are many reasons not to tweak this new OS.

I have had my acer c7 for about 3 months and it is great. I chose it over samsung because it has an ethernet plug which samsung does not. Not concerned about battery shorter as I leave mine always plugged in and connected to ethernet.

Cromebook C7 BestBuy

Just got one via Best Buy because of free shipping, $199 no taxes here in NH.

I'm usually running Ubuntu new development unstable linux on netbook, notebook, tower.

Chose the C7 because of posts showing how to install Ubuntu (Chrubuntu) on it with less caveats and more function than the Samsung. Eventual goal is to boot linux from an external USB hard drive. Better make a rescue drive first.

Haven't tried Ubuntu on it yet (this post is from an Acer Aspire 1 netbook driving a 20" external monitor and external wireless keyboard & mouse).

No measurements yet, my vague impression is the 1 gHz Acer chromebook C7 running ChromeOS is faster than the 1.6 gHz Acer netbook running Ubuntu.

Only thing I've done on the C7 is put a wireless mouse on.

Also in process of changing a bunch of passwords since the google cloud stuff will put anything I do on the chromebook up on the cloud for the hackers, spamers, greedy advertisers.
