What is the resolution on an 11.6" screen? I couldn't find anything on this.

Not necessarily. VGA is actually capable of carrying much larger computer resolutions, whereas HDMI caps at 1920x1080 (1080p). Who knows, though, you could be right!

How about returning to UXGA screens? I'm tired of the "widescreen" laptop-netbook lopping off the top a complete webpage.

I don't care about the "widescreen". I just want to be able to clearly see what it is I'm working on, without having to stick my whole head in the computer.

I still would go for the Samsung option. I have never been an Acer fan but perhaps I could try out this one. I am just wondering why they could not go with a wider screen?

1366x768 looks amazing on a 11.6...it is criminal that people use this as a standard rez on 15.6inch. I really want the Acer but the Samsung has the all day battery...which is KEY to me.

I agree that it is no use for the screen to be wide and have a really bad resolution. I am a Samsung products' fan but I do not know much about the laptops.
