Hi All,

I've just recieved my Samsung Chromebook and looking to get a USB to Ethernet adapter.

Can anyone confirm if the Apple adapter (Apple USB Ethernet Adapter (MacBook Air 2010) works with the Chromebook?

These are the ones that are currently selling on Amazon (link here)

I don't have a Mac to test but you'd think it would work fine.
Yes you would think so - I've searched the Internet and cant find a definitive list what USB Ethernet adapters are support.

So if anyone has tried one on a chromebook and got it to work, please let me know!
If a usb speaker won't work then you'll be very, very lucky if an Ethernet adapter will work. Chromeos doesn't have great usb support. Keyboards, mice and disks is about your lot.
That's a bit worrying - I read on the Internet that the Chromebook does support a range of Ethernet USB adapters - one which is recommended is a Cisco one which is only available in the USA not the UK.

It may just be a case of buying and trying!

I could be wrong - can you cite your source?
The tethering app on my HTC Desire will appear to windows 7 as a regular wired connection but is ignored by the chromebook. Thankfully the wifi hotspot app works just fine so this isn't a big drawback for me. Other than that I haven't tried anything.

Connecting a Chromebook to Wired Ethernet/LAN

Even though Chromebooks have built-in Wi-Fi and wireless 3G internet adapters, you’ll find that there’s no wired ethernet port to be found on their compact chassis. But don’t fret, there’s a way! According to the documentation from Samsung and Google, most USB ethernet ports should work with Chromebooks just fine. Good USB ethernet network adapters can be found today for pennies (well, in computing terms), and will allow you to plug in a standard RJ45 ethernet jack and connect to a wired network/LAN. So, even if you have only a wired router at home, you’ll be just fine.

Update: There are a ton of options for USB ethernet adapters, of varying quality and compatibility. Personally, I recommend this Cisco-Linksys USB Ethernet Adapter for build quality/brand reputation, lower price, and compatibility with a wide range of devices.

BTW I've ordered two adapters, the Apple one and a standard cheapo one (both from Amazon).

I will report back how it get on.

Hi, just a quick update to say that both adapters worked fine. I'm currently running with the Apple USB to Ethernet adapter purchased from Amzaon for £19 (see above link in first post). Plugged it in, ChromeOS picks it up within a few seconds and bingo your connected.

Cheers Glyn
I'm glad they worked, that is very good to know.
