Battery life

4498 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Robbie Dalziel
The battery time on my Acer 720 dropped from around 8 hours to about 3 1/2 after about 3 months. Ts this typical? I keep it on the charger most of the time but really need to be able to count on etter battery time, one of the reasons for purchasing this model.

There i reference to recalibrating the battery on the Acer site but am not entirely sure of how to do it and if it would restore attery time. Has anyone had any experience with this? My chromebook is in constant usage with only some pictures with timers running/ Does continuous usage affect it?

Thanks for any help,

Claire

I've found that my battery life is very good, yes, I mean sometimes, in fact most of the time it doesn't say 8.5 hours but I also see when it says theres 45 minutes left it says 59 or 60 % which I know isn't right because I usually have gotten a couple full days of battery kife.
Hi Claire...

If you keep your CB on a constant charge, it should always show what available time there is left and most likely, it will seldom show that it is full - or nearing empty...

With my C720, I run it as required, keeping my eye on the amount of battery life left, plugging in the charger should it drop to around 25%... Then I just leave it until full, then unplug and continue with my work...

The figure showing, does tend to be unreliable in some respects... At times, mine has shown 12.5 hours remaining at the end of a charge and at other times, a mere 6.5 hours... But don't let it concern you... As long as you couple it up when it drops to 25%, you won't go far wrong... Always carry your charger whan leaving home... That the best advice anyone could give you... Smile...

One more thing that might interest you (and I don't know if you do likewise) I NEVER shut down my CB, preferring to just close the lid and let it sleep... It doesn't seem to loose any power over-night or for a full day: if not in use - and doing that, does not appear to have done any harm to the machine in the 6/8 months I've been using it...

Have fun...

A Quick P.S.

I cannot say for sure, if running the CB with the charger going all the time will do any harm, but, rather than being held at a stable level, in general (as with most batteries) it is supposedly better for them, if they are allowed to run down and then be recharged...

The only system where that does not apply, is to car batteries, although they have what might be describes as: a cut-out system, to prevent any harm coming to them... To my knowledge, a CB does not have that... I try never to charge my CB longer than necessary... But that's me being me: not a requisite necessity ~ to my knowledge...

What might prompt that message ruellesmith, is if you've been used to charging your machine every few days, rather than letting it run down to a low level, the machine's warning programme, might have picked up on the way you've been re-charging and is letting you know what to do as usual, rather than waiting for there to be an actual need for a re-charge...

I'm not saying that such is a fact, more that it could be a possibility...

As long as you're not going away from the home base, try letting the battery run down to a low level for a few weeks to see if it reverts to the proper notification sequence: which is best at about 25% of battery life remaining...

It would be worth a try in my estimation... If you do play around with that and there is any progress made, perhaps you could give some feedback, so that others will benefit from your efforts...

Further to that just posted, if anyone does have any other queries, pop them on here and we'll see if I have an answer to the problem... I have a fair understanding of the Acer C720 (that's what I have) but if it's something that I've never come across before, I'd be more than happy to try and find an answer to most problems... I enjoy the challenge...

Not going to say I will come up with an answer, but I'll certainly enjoy trying...
