Can I give a friend my cloud storage?

A friend of mine is a heavy cloud user. I plan on purchasing a Chromebook this week, but will likely only need the free amount of storage, as I only do work on documents for school, which doesn't take much room. Can I give him the cloud storage that comes with the Chromebook for 2 years, or do I have to tie it to the Chromebook I purchase?
