Chrome OS 12 has been named as the official version that will ship on the Google Chromebook. The R12 beta was released last night to the Chromium project.

I am really excited about this new OS, and moving to the cloud!

I am very excited about the Google Chromebook and the cloud too. I am a little confused as to why it is called Chrome OS 12. Correct me if I am wrong, but shouldn't this be 1?

I was kind of wondering about that, too. Maybe this is some more of Google's sense of humor, or there may be some other significant reason for the 12.

I was thinking they would start naming their OS after tasty pastries just like with Android. Maybe something like Chrome Fritter 2.1?! Sleep on it.
