This is a comparison between Chrome OS & Joli OS.
The new Chrome OS on the chromebook seems to be much better than Joli OS on the device shown.

Both run off the cloud. Thoughts on Joli OS?

Chrome OS isn't the only operating system with its head in the clouds. Jolicloud's Joli OS has been around for a few years now, and it has a similar focus on web apps. It doesn't boot as fast or feature the same tight hardware integration that Chrome OS does, but it can run native desktop apps as well as web apps.

I use Joli OS on my netbook right now, and while I like it a lot it's a little annoying to use sometimes. Not everything I need is available as an app yet, and deleting/moving documents from the harddrive is tricky.

I used to have an older version (Jolicloud 1.0) on my netbook (Dell Mini 9) as well. I found it more awkward and less satisfactory to use that anticipated. I replaced it with a netbook version of Ubuntu, which was way too slow and clunky for my machine's system. I recently replaced it with a version of Chrome OS. The later works much better on my netbook, and gives me a real sense of how a Chromebook would work. Hence my interest in getting one!

There site is..the actually OS is based on Ubuntu with a custom HTML5 skin on Gnome 2.29. This allows them to do anything GTK programming wise. This is why there is Libre office, Skype and other fully native apps.

Even on a high end SSD it still can get under 10 sec boot. Plus you still have at the issues you get with a full desktop experience...even if it is more walled off. xorg will still have the same issues. Plus all the wasted drivers kmods and code that slows the machine down. Chrome OS has the benefit of only running on a handful of machines and run fast...that is the point...and I know I bring this up a ton..but Verified Boot process is the most important part of Chrome..You can NEVER get a virus..any bad code will be removed at boot because it won't pass the Key check..and since it is all in the cloud...when you log back in you get everything back...

Amazing how good Chrome is.....
