Chromebooks Now Have Easier Access to PC Apps

This is some good news. Plenty of windows OS switchers will like this.

Very interesting. I wonder how well it will work and how safe it is.

It looks for all purposes at HTML5 RDP Client - Free Trial - From Chromebooks or any HTML5-compatible browser like it will work exactly as intended. If anyone tries it out make sure to post about it, I have a need for a permanent solution like that.

Well, hey! That's good news, right? Especially since some people didn't want to buy Chromebooks because it didn't have Windows applications. Maybe this'll be the thing to make them finally switch to Chrome OS.

What about ThinVNC? That is free...

ThinVNC is promising, but I've had problems in practice - the video connection doesn't seem to be reliable. I'll be taking this up with their support team and will hopefully get to a solution.

The other exciting possibility is to use Google's chomoting tech. This is still very much developer-only stuff at the moment, but there is some interesting stuff here - Kenny Strawn's Divine Tech Blog: HowTo: Enable Chromoting on Chromebooks WITHOUT entering developer mode

I've not had chance to have a play with that yet, but it is next on my list if I get nowhere with thinVNC. Unless someone from here beats me too it and reports back, of course

I would like to say that Chromoting is an awesome name for remoting...Did Google coin that because it is awesome.

At first I thought it was an RDP client for chromeos, but apparently you need to install Chrome on the pc you want to connect to.. a bit like how cloud printing works. This concerns me a bit as it feels non-standard and is probably bloating the chrome browser. I guess we'll find out for sure when the feature ships.

ThinVNC support have responded to me about my issue - apparently already fixed in the next version, due soon. Can't wait
