I've seen a report of Google showing a "Chromebox" prototype which would be like a Mac mini where you supply the display, keyboard and mouse. This would fit in organizations that have a need for a non-mobile solution capable of doing what the Chromebook can do. Might be a good opportunity for Zotac to turn out a ZChromebox as an addition to their Zbox line of nettop PCs.

I highly doubt the Chromebox will be released this year. Were already 1/2 way into this year and google is just about to release the ChromeBook. I say give it another 6 months - 1 year for the chrome box to release.

I tired looking for a Google ChromeBox release date but nearly everywhere says TBA.

It can be hard breaking new technologies into the enterprise space. No CIO wants to be the first. I think the bigger play for a ChromeBox will be in the enterprise space. There are still a lot of desktops sold as terminals to the network and a ChromeBox would be an effective economical replacement requiring less IT support.

My guess is Google will focus on the consumer market first with the ChromeBook and build support for the product and concept then expand focus on business/enterprise. Look what has happened to the iPad in its transition from consumer to business/education. Consumers are always the early adopters.

it wont come out this year as he is right about consumers are always the early adapters and google will slowly build the reuptaion of chromebook and at that point is when he bigger companies will recognize it and then it should sky rocket and grow big, as it is able to cut huge cost as well.

I wouldn't be surprise to see it soon. Frankly, if you look at it, the chromebook is not the big deal. What Google want is to impose its vision of the Cloud which is ... no device !!!
Speak to the sky .... and God will answer.
Seriously, Google sells services. And they want everybody to access it, regardless the device.
Here is the proof : you can access google apps even with firefox (good luck by the way). You do not need a chromebook, you do not even need a chromeOS. You barely need a chrome browser.

THIS is the objective of google. To make the device transparent. Because when you think twice, they will not make money on devices since a) they do not build them (as opposed to Apple) and 2) they don't care !!!

To my opinion, the chromebooks are only a way to implement their cloud model, which is VERY AUDACIOUS .... and incredibly expensive if the model prevails (I warmly encorage you to read those two posts : google versus apple in the cloud war/ and chromebooks-towards-free-internet)

So, I would not be surprise to see a lot of devices going out ... just to provoke Apple. Because it costs nothing to Google and the open technology make it very "easy" for manufacturers to propose something. Especially, the chromebox, though probably very useful, is no revolutionary. To me, this is a way to push Apple under pressure.

I was surprised nobody talked of the iCloud on the forum (again, go read google versus apple in the cloud war/, which should be done already ;-). The cloud from Apple is clearly device oriented : Apple wants us to buy iDevices .... because they make money with this, and once you bought it, you have about no choice but to use their services. In the opposite, Google wants us to use its services on any devices, because any devices means more devices ; and because any device is not an iDevice !

Sorry for this long post and for my english, I hope you'll have as much pleasure to read it as I had to write it. And congratulations to those who already get their Chromebook. You guys rock and it remains that I am jailous anyway ;-)
