The Acer and Samsung Google Chromebooks have an upgraded processor from the CR-48. Are CR-48 users finding the NR455 to be a problem. Is the new processor in the Gen 1 machines making a big difference?

I do not think it is that huge of a change. I think that some people will upgrade the CR-48 processor, but I do not think it was so bad that it made for a bad experience or anything.

I have a CR-48 which runs the N455, and a custom built nettop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and a D525 @ 1.8ghz. According to this benchmark site (PassMark - CPU Benchmarks - List of Benchmarked CPUs) the D525 has more than twice the power of the N455. Yet, in realtime usage, I find them to be rather similar in performance given the differing platforms. Both feel choppy and laggy at times, especially when there is a lot going on. Neither can play 1080 video to any acceptable degree and both struggle to play 720.

I see, thanks for the info. Perhaps the issues are not caused by the processor at all, but by some other issue. I wonder what it could be and hope Google will get the bugs worked out in time.

When I first got the CR-48, it was rather slow and I always blamed it on the processor. But after the recent update, things are much faster now. Gives me hope that the new processors can handle the job.

Processor......Linux Kernel

Since I've had the cr-48, I have compared it to my Lenovo S10 (no dash) with 2GB of RAM using Lubuntu, now at version 11.04.

They are remarkably similar in terms of electronics (processor, RAM) and seem to function about the same in terms of speed, until I updated Lubuntu to the 11.04 edition. Then the S10 really speed-ed up.

Seems the Linux Kernel (2.6.38-10 currently) has offered great improvement for the processor, Atom N455.

It is to be included in version 13 of Chrome OS, so I am expecting to see improvement in the cr-48 as well.

Overall, considering the cr-48 is essentially a netbook, I am really pleased at how it has worked with Chrome OS beta.

Just limited in video in higher resolutions so far.

I think the only issue I have with the Atom that is in here..no flash hardware support.
