Hi All,

If I attach an external hard disk to my chromebook will it work. I've not tried it as I don't want to upset my CB in any way , but I wondered if it would just tell me that it couldn't open it or what.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice

Hi Ailz,

i didn't try it yet with an external usb harddrive, but i tried it with an usb stick and that worked perfectly, no problems.
The usb stick simply appears in the file explorer in the left side.

Perhaps this will be enough proof, that you can challenge your Chromebook with an external hard drive :)

OK Guys...

Just read your questions and quickly plugged a spare external 80GB hard drive into my CB... It showed up quite normally, with the data as expected, although there was an extra item showing that read: 'Back Up'... What that was, I've no idea... Never seen that before... Didn't click on it, because it had no relevance to what I've seen before or what I might need...

So there you are... Hope that helps a bit...

For those who might be interested, I've tested the unit a little further...

The 'Back Up' tab, seemed to be data, that might well be 'Hidden Files' normally associated with and apply to: the running of that drive, when used with a PC, because one file I noticed was for 'Drivers'...

Also, data on the drive, could be opened and even music was playable...

Hope that helps a little more...

Please remember ~ on all occasions, make sure you close the USB stick, SD card or any other drive plugged in, by clicking on the small down arrow, located to the right of the item reference name... That will close the unit so that you do not loose or corrupt your data...
