flakey hdmi output

Hi all- I was streaming a movie on my Samsung chromebook thru my home theater projector via the hdmi output, when a lightning strike momentarily interrupted the image. Since then, the hdmi output has been flakey- working sometimes, but messing up a lot other times. The projector itself is fine, and Hdmi-to-projector viewing thru my other laptop is flawless. Is there any way to troubleshoot the integrity of hdmi output signal? Is there any kind of repair funtion I can run? Thanks. RJ

This is a bit drastic RJ, but it sounds as though a 'Power Wash' might be the best thing to try, because the lightening strike, may have damaged part of the OS, concerned with the streaming process...

Not saying that such a step will reverse the situation, but on the other hand ~ it might...

I doubt it will happen, but doing a power wash, might not be the appropriate answer, as there could be adverse results... That's just a speculative observation...

You're probably aware how to go about the task, but if not, open settings, click on advanced and go to the very end of the list... PW puts the machine right back to where it was when new...

Save all relevant, important information on a memory stick, because the slate will be wiped clean when performing that function...

Hope that helps...

thanks Robbie, I'll give it a shot. I did think of that, but decided that it probably wouldn't help "unfry" a partially damaged whatever...but, what the heck- at this point it's worth a shot. What I am really looking for is the ability to run some kind of diagnostics on the output to verify any damage that might have occurred.

thanks,
R J

Thanks for the heads-up on that RJ ~ hope whatever you try , brings positive results...

I for one would be most grateful if you'd return with some feedback, with info about whatever you may have tried and the results obtained... That way, we can all build up a picture regarding what to do (or not) in a given situation...

Robbie,
I did finally get around to trying the power wash. Unfortunately, it did not solve the problem. Fortunately, the chromebook works fine in every other respect, so the damage is only minimal.

Sorry to hear that RJ... It must be part of the programme ... Maybe that will get picked up in the regular updates at some time... let's hope so... Thanks for the heads up on that... Most kind and thoughtful of you to explain...

Some questions here:
  • Have you tried connecting the Chromebook directly to an HDMI TV? Do the same problems persist?
  • Have you tried using a different HDMI cable?
