So I've only just started doing research on what exactly is available on Chromebooks, and what I'm wondering is: what sort of games are available? Will it be just browser-based ones, or is Google going to come out with some sort of app-version of...stuff?

Google Chrome web store is where you can find all the games in APP form.

There's a lot of free google chromebook games.

right now, you will most likely only be seeing the app versions of flash (and java and whatever else) games.. nothing intense.

but as cloud computing grows bigger, im sure there'll be graphics-intensive games. not too soon, i dont think.. just give it time

All app version like how they are flash and java and what not. but it shouldn't be too be, esp when they plan to put all games online and download or a live game stream as well!

Chromebooks don't support Java, at least not yet.

Let's keep in mind that Chromebooks aren't meant to replace your home computer. Maybe some day, but right now I think Google is more focused on appealing to business and education than video games and other hardcore computing.

That said, there are some pretty entertaining games already on the app store. Maybe someone can start a thread for it. I would, but I'm on my phone right now!

Yes, there should be a lot of games of probably any kind you're looking for as the app store has a large amount of them and they will most likely carry over onto Chromebooks.

The Chrome App store is relatively new compared to the Android Market so I would give it some time. Better games will be made quickly i'm sure of.

it will take time but it will grow quickly as apple devs and andriod dev's all seem to make their games mutliplatform

Kind of related question: Does ChromeOS allow flash? There are online games that utilize flash, and I am curious if I can play them from the chromebook.

ChromeOS supports Flash but not Java.

For a gaming experience, you're better with a tablet IMHO.

Chromebooks are much better than a tablet for working on the web - documents, code, web applications - anything that makes use of the keyboard.
