I have just tried to use Google+ Hangouts from my HP Pavilion 14 Chromebook 14-c010us trying to prove I don't need Skype and I have a problem. I can see the other party but I cannot hear them. They can both hear and see me.

My speakers are working because I can play music from say a USB stick and I can watch and hear the sound from YouTube videos.

The other party is using a Windows 7 laptop with Chrome browser.

If we use Skype from his laptop and either my Windows 7 desktop PC or my Nexus 7 then we both get video and sound which leads me to believe that his end is working fine.

I have Googled this problem and there seems to be a few reports of similar problems but no resolutions.

I wonder if there is any way that I can test that my video and sound recording is working independent of Hangouts.

Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT (Sunday, 17th Nov.): I have since tried the same connection using Hangouts from my Nexus 7 and we have the same problem – the other party can both see and hear me while I can only see them. This makes me think the problem is at the other (Windows 7) end.
