How is Google going to address the issue of Java applets? Has there been word about it? Don't you think they have to work on it? Or would they leave it to the Java programmers?

Ongoing litigation between Sun and Google mean it is unlikely that Google will add Java to ChromeOS IMHO. There is some interesting info here, both on the discussion and how to 'hack' java into your chromebook at the cost of losing automatic updates.

It is possible we might see a 3rd party Java plug in appear, but don't hold your breath
