Someone mentioned that you can watch movies in Chromebook when you are not online provided you downloaded them in your external drive of flash drive. I forgot to ask, don't you have to have players installed as well?
Chrome OS has a built-in media player for music and video files. You can play them locally from the hard drive as well as from a USB flash drive or SD card, you don't need to be connected to the internet.
If you hit CTRL-M you can get to your external device. From there you can load video..it has to be in a support non-DRM format: .mp4, .m4v, .m4a, .mp3, .ogv, .ogm, .ogg, .oga, .webm, .wav.
Along these lines, are there any rental websites that would work with the Chrome OS player? i.e. Amazon, etc...? Otherwise, can only watch movies that you own and "handbrake" over to the Chromebook hard drive... wonder if this is one of the offline apps that is being worked on?
As far as I know, you can watch and listen to music offline plus you would most definitely need a player. I also want to believe a Chromebook requires one to be mostly online?
So just tested and cannot download movies/rentals from Amazon as they require you to do this with "Unbox" their windows program. Frustrating that currently there are no ways to do this other than ripping a DVD and copying it to the hard drive. Need some amazon app that facilitates this for chromebook users. Not interested in iTune store nor does it work either.
