...would you want a Chromebook? I personally think Chromebooks are cool, but I think if I was in school I'd be annoyed that I wasn't getting a fully-fledged laptop. And if you only had wifi at school, it might be a bit difficult to get a lot of stuff done at school.

On the other hand, any sort of computer is better than no computer at all!

What do you think?

If I was a student I would get a chromebook. Simply because it's amazing for browsing the net. Students need to research a lot and nearly everything you can find in books are online, so having something super fast for browsing really helps.

Back in my school days, if i had a dollar for everytime my laptop froze while browsing the net I would be a millionaire.

+ what student wants to do school work all the time, the faster they can get their work done, the better

Malone,

Take a log of what you do offline with your current computer. My two sons do almost everything they need/want to do web based. There are a few cracks that need MS based computers to fill but very little in today's world.

done deal as well 20 buks a month all doc would be online and power point and what not docs will be there when i need them instead of having everything stored at home if i was a student and i had this in my time it would of been so much easier and less things to carry also, it would help if teachers weren't so anal about laptops and electronics.

Student? I'd get one if I was a spider monkey. Or an ocelot. Or a parking enforcement officer.
Chromebooks are shiny and cool!
Seriously, if you use little other than the web. If a computer without a web connection is a pointless object on your planet, a chromebook is a great choice.

yup

Im a senior in college and I can honestly say that all i take to classes are a chromebook and a voice recorder. I can type alot faster than i can write and having the pdf of the lecture open with the 'scratchpad' chromeapp is all i need for note-taking in even the most difficult science classes. I have a laptop in my dorm for heavy computing (lab reports and such) but chromebooks are ultra portable and perfect for students. A laptop is seriously inept in battery life and even an ultrabook doest have full day battery life. Cutting the power chord makes the chromebook perfect not to mention its half the weight of a laptop.
A caveat would be that your campus needs to have good wifi to be optimal for chromebooks. Also, a previous reply mentioned that it would not be a suitable if you have to do alot of cad or photoshop on the go, but for 85% of students that arent enginnering or graphic design majors then chromebooks are perfect for college
If youre considering buying a chromebook ask yourself 2 questions...
1.) what do i do on my current computer when im not on the internet?
2.) can browser apps replace what i do offline?

for me the answers led me to buy a chromebook and its made my college life alot simplier
