Does anyone know if you can connect to the internet using a mobile hotspot ?

You should be able to connect to any hot-spot, as long as you have the password (if such is available free) or, if a charge is applicable, you've paid the subscription and been given the password...

I've got several passwords programmed into my Acer C720 and whenever I go to the same (private) location, I immediately reconnect to the internet...

Having said that, those places that charge do tend to change the passwords frequently, so whatever you had during the first visit, might not necessarily work during the second...

Thanks Robbie...I purchased a Straight Talk Mobile Hotspot device for travel. Having alot of problems connecting to the internet using this hotspot. I don't have a problem at a hotel, McDonalds or places like that. Does anyone use any of these hotspot devices ?

Never used any connection of that type myself Grunt... I would imagine, that to connect to the internet 'off the cuff' (so to speak) you'd need to be working via a G3 or G4 device...

Our community manager has such equipment and when switched on, she can connect from any where ~ at any time ~ using her tablet... I imagine much would be the same: using a Chrome Book...

Further to the previous, you spoke about certain connections you could make... Those sound like set hotspots, where there is only a need for a wireless device on any piece of equipment ~ or so I imagine ~ a service provided by the said establishment...

I've got a dongle that, if I used it, I could connect from any location but only for a limited amount of usage each month, for a total cost of: £15 per month...

Just thought that might be worth a mention as well...

i have at&t galaxy note 2 cell phone with the 5g plan , which includes tethering ( mobile hotspot ) . i have no problems connecting to the hotspot through my cell phone . first i disable bluetooth , disable mobile data, then the chromebook automatically connects through wifi to the galaxy note 2 hotspot . I don't own a small phone. I have a HP 11 Chromebook running Chrome OS. I purchased a Straight Talk Mobile HotSpot so I could get connected in areas where WIFI wasn't available. I activate Straight Talk and see that it is connected, but after you activate you have to enter 192.168.1.1 to finish the process. I get the security screen and enter the id and password but thats as far as I get. Keep getting message page not found cannot connect to url. Has anyone used Mobile Hot Spots like Straight Talk, Freedompop and if so I need HELP.

Entering 192.168.1.1 is a request to log into the router settings... I cannot understand why there should be a need for you to enter that command... It cannot be to finish the process, because that numerical configuration is a request and a request applies to a continuation: something that you wouldn't be able to achieve, because there would probably be a firewall block, to stop you from doing so... That's how it appears to me...

If you moved just out of reach of that hot-spot, can you then connect directly to the internet using your Straight Talk Mobile Hot-Spot device without any trouble???

grunt , you can go to straighttalkhotspot.com & there is simple directions to start your hotspot . also , there is a link to troubleshoot wifi & internet connections for the hotspot that will work you through the problems your having . hope this helps , Bob

Thanks crouch38. I got the straight talk hotspot to work by using my wife's smart phone for the set up, strange, but it worked after doing this.
