I've mentioned Write Space before for making local notes on a chromebook, and there is a new app out there that does the same thing - Pillarbox.

Pillarbox uses a smaller font by default, and works a bit better with the excellent Panelize extension for overlaying one page in a pop up over others. It also has some cool word count and timing features.
