My last obstacle to buying a Chromebook is Gmail. I love the email service; I just can't get used to its Webmail user interface -- what with its merged threads, collapsed message contents, and whatnot. I've used it for fairly extended stretches and still can't get comfortable with it.

Are there any other free Webmail services that will allow me to make an IMAP connection with my Gmail account? Any that have an interface more like Outlook or Lotus Notes than Gmail's Webmail?

Okay, I answered my own question after some research. Yahoo! Mail allows POP feed of Gmail, but not IMAP.

However, I was able to tweak the settings on Gmail to make it work more like Outlook. There is a control in the settings to unmerge the conversations, and there is a feature in Google Labs that installs the preview pane. Now I can live with it, I think.

I'm no help, but I love the Gmail set up. It's so much cleaner than anything else, and the spam filter is great. Love it.
