I read here that the Chromebook only can play MP4. Is that correct?

What about the MOV format?

Is there anyone here that plays and edits their movies with their Chromebook? How does it work?

Chromebook can play formats such as MP4, MOV and Mpeg/Mpg. AVI files are not supported by ChromeOS. ChromeOS is a web-oriented browser, as such, it doesn't work with legacy codecs.

H264 seems to be the best option for playing back video.
Thank you for the information!
I'm confused. I found a list of supported file types. MOV (.mov) isn't included.

So is or isn't MOV (.mov) supported?

I ask because I want to buy Canon PowerShot SX230 HS but are unsure if the video format works in Chromebook.
Samsung's counterpart (Samsung WB750) records in MP4 (.mp4). Should I instead buy WB750 to be sure that it works?
I have a sx230 and I can't playback the .mov files. The jpg's are great!
Just because it isn't listed doesn't mean it's not supported. It means that it's been tested and confirmed compatible.

Techradar did a review of the Samsung Series 5 Chromebook and mentioned that .mov and .mp4 video files played just fine.
We tested a variety of video file formats and were rather disappointed with the results. Out of the box, we managed to get .mov and .MP4 videos to work just fine, but more exotic formats like .wmv, .mkv and a basic DivX .AVI were not recognised by the OS.

Hope this helps.
Video Formats

I have the new 11.6" samsung. I have no problem playing AVI format films. Once i got a message saying a particular file would not play, it still did but the message stayed in the center of the scree. Never did that again, even with the same file.

My new c720 does not play mpg files.
How can I get my C720 to play my mpg files that I have on my usb flash drive?
Is there an app that I can download? Thank you.
