If you're planning to buy a Chromebook in June, here are a couple of steps you can take now to start getting ready (if you haven't already):

• install the Chrome browser on your existing PC and activate the sync options
• migrate your most important files and documents to Google docs
• pick a cloud service for your music (Google or Amazon or other) and move your files there
• pick a cloud service for your photos (Picasa, Flickr or countless others) and move your files there
• after installing the Chrome browser, open a new tab and click on the Chrome Web Store to see the apps available to you

This is actually a very good idea that people should just install the chrome OS and learn off the and then slowly learn to accept the Cloud idea and everything else.

Thanks for the info but just to act a little more curious, why can't the cloud concept work with the normal PCs? I mean if you are able to store your documents in a cloud, then you should also be able to access them through the same PC, huh?

If you choose to compile a copy of the Chromium OS or download a USB copy, that's fine. However, my suggestion is to simply switch over the Chrome browser, set up the sync feature and begin shifting local info to your preferred cloud service.

Clearly, it can - up to a point. You miss out on things like quick boot times, absence of malware management, absence of OS maintenance, longer battery life, etc.

Only businesses needing 10 or more units will qualify for the $28 per month subscription. Individual consumers will not. The Chromium OS is open source and can be compiled from source for your particular computer. It's more involved than some PC users want to handle, but it can be done, and it does not cost anything other than your time and know-how to do this. Your mileage...

Correct - unless you buy 3G AND you go over the monthly amount of MB. If you buy a chromebook as an individual, no additional monthly fees. (I'm sure you can find stuff online, greater storage space, etc. that could cost you, but nothing extra just for the chromebook).

Since the cromebooks don't have GPS or 3G. can I tether my smartphone to my samsung with wi-fi and get the navigation with voice in the larger format?

I haven't tested the connection/tethering of a phone to the Cr-48. However, I'll remind you that the Samsung Chromebook models are available in 3G & WiFi or WiFi only.

I tried downloading the Chromebook in my PC the other day but it took like forever and I had to give up.Perhaps it was because I was using IE. I will try using Firefox tonight.

Sounds like a match made in heaven! Android connected to 3g with a wireless hotspot activated just for our Chromebooks! Better yet you can keep your Android charged via USB to your CB!
