trouble with hotspot

I have been trying to connect my samsung chromebook with my samsung galaxy with different wifi hotspot apps. The chromebook "sees" all the different hotspots but times out and doesnt connect. Any help out there? oh yea my galaxy phone is a straight talk with verizon
