Ubuntu Questions

So I just bought a Samsung Chromebook and I'm liking it so far. However, I do miss some of the capabilities that come with a desktop so I started reading about Ubuntu. Basically, I was just wondering what the main differences are besides the fact that you can have desktop icons? Also, would I be able to download iTunes with this OS?
