What is a CR-48

I know this is going to seem like a strange question, so please be nice. Can you please tell me what a CR-48 is? It is a computer, who was that made by?

I too heard that the pilot program was over but then just yesterday I magically received mine in the mail. Wow is this thing cool. I love it.
