I do not mean to ask a stupid question. But what was the driving reason that Acer decided to make their Google Chromebook smaller than Samsung's Chromebook?

Because other people might want a smaller screen. Acer's is also higher res.

Acer also seems bigger margins in the smaller notebook/netbook market, their brand has has a better reputation for that subset of customers
