Working on files offline

I know I can do this, but I just can't seem to figure out how! I was able to save a file (word processing document) to my Chromebook hard drive, but I can't edit it. How can I work on a Word-type file when I'm offline? Thanks so much...

Did you ever try going to the APPs search bar and typing in the words: 'Hard drive files' ~ and hitting the return key... That's how I discovered the files on my Chromebook... Get on with that quite well now... But I'm uncertain if you can actually update files, while you are off line...
